Children’s Social Services Supervisor

Southwest Health and Human Services currently has an opening for a Children’s Social Services Supervisor in our Marshall Office location.

Southwest Health and Human Services (SWHHS) is a multi-county agency committed to strengthening individuals, families and communities by providing quality services in a respectful, caring and cost-effective manner.

The purpose of this position is to supervise the staff and programs for child protection services and child welfare services so that they function within federal, state, county laws, rules, and agency policy in meeting customers’ needs.  Monitors and evaluates the provision of client services in the program areas.  Fosters effective community-agency relations and organizes community projects.  Participates in community meetings and is responsible for the utilization of community resources.  Assists in the planning and development of social services budget and provides the justification and rationale to county board regarding social service unit/division budget needs and requests.  Evaluates staff performance and recommends appropriate action.

Minimum Qualifications for This Position: 

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in social work or clinical psychology, counseling psychology, human services administration or closely related field (i.e., applied behavioral sciences) and one year of experience as a social worker.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in social worker from an accredited college/university and two years of experience as a social worker.
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution in a closely related field (psychology, sociology, human services) and three years of experience as a social worker
  • Baccalaureate degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college/university and five years of experience as a social worker.

Other desirable Qualifications (in addition to above):  Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of social work and social work supervision.  Knowledge of social, cultural, and economic issues.  Knowledge of state welfare/human services programs.  Knowledge of the principles and techniques of achieving change in individuals and groups, and an ability to demonstrate successful application.  Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.  Ability to evaluate performance and foster growth of staff.  Ability to organize work and the work of staff effectively and efficiently.  Ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with agency staff, clients, partners, and the community.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Ability to work tactfully, collaboratively and diplomatically with others.

Starting Rate of Pay: $66,290 – $113,736 annual
