What is naloxone?

Naloxone is a safe and effective medication specifically designed to reverse opioid overdoses. It works by rapidly binding to opioid receptors in the brain, blocking the effects of opioids and restoring normal breathing in individuals who have overdosed. This includes overdoses caused by prescription pain relievers, heroin, and synthetic opioids like fentanyl.

Why is naloxone important?

  • Immediate Response: It can quickly revive someone who is unresponsive due to an overdose.
  • Accessibility: Naloxone can be administered by anyone, including friends, family, and bystanders, even before emergency medical services arrive.
  • Safety: It has no potential for abuse and can be safely given to someone who is not experiencing an opioid overdose.

What is included in each kit?

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Breathing barrier
  • Alcohol swabs
  • 3 doses of naloxone with syringes
  • Instruction card (English, Spanish, Hmong, and Somali)
